WorldCast Features

Organizations that send mass mail often face a "dead addresses" problem - sometimes many letters return, accusing the nonexistence of such addresses. This means a lot of traffic was wasted. WorldCast - using direct mailing - detects many of the "dead addresses" at the very beginning of the sending/validating procedure, thus solving the problem.

WorldCast
is the ultimate tool for industrial strength bulk emailing, as well as e-mail address validation. Features include:

The validation process works on the same algorithm as ISP mail systems do. Mail server addresses are extracted from domain name servers (DNS). WorldCast
tries to connect with SMTP servers and simulates message sending. It disconnects as soon as the mail server informs if this address is valid or not, without sending the actual message. Since no message will be sent to the recipients, your validation will go unnoticed by them.

WorldCast
is multi threaded - providing high speed of operation - and ensures the best usage of your Internet connection.

WorldCast Projects

A WorldCast project is a file (extension ".WCT") that contains the whole the data from the emailing list file you are about to create. It contains not only the recipients but also the structure of the project -the message's format, the message body, attached files (if any), a detailed log of all sending/validating connection operations and several options that can be set to define the project.

This is the advantage of WorldCast projects; all project options are saved with the recipient list. In other words, if you have interrupted your e-mail sending for any reason, just save it as a .wct project, reload, and execute it from the point where you stopped. There is no need to set its configuration options again - they are already part of the saved project.

Note: WorldCast also has a
safe recovery feature.

The Main Window

The main window of WorldCast has three major panes, a toolbar and a menu bar.

Data Panel
Contains the e-mail addresses, the message status, the recipient's name, and additional fields imported by the user (such as product name, recipient's country, etc.).
Message Subject
Contains the subject of the message to be sent. Not used in the case of just validating email addresses.

Message Body
Contains the body of the message to be sent. Not used in the case of just validating email addresses.
If the message is formatted as HTML, The "HTML Preview" tab can be used to preview it as HTML..

Subscribing/Unsubscribing Recipients

WorldCast allows the possibility of keeping unsubscribed elements in the list. Subscribed recipients will receive emails (or be validated), unsubscribed elements won't.

E-mail Address Validation - Overview

WorldCast is a very powerful tool for validating every email address from a given mailing list.
You don't need to disturb your clients, friends, etc. anymore to check if their email addresses are still valid. WorldCast connects directly to their SMTP server and checks it for you. Nothing is sent to the recipient in the validation process.

The validation process works on the same algorithm as ISP mail systems do. Mail servers e-mail addresses are extracted from DNS. WorldCast tries to connect with found SMTP-servers and simulates the sending of message. It does not send messages in this routine - WorldCast disconnects as soon as the mail server informs the addresses exist or not.

It helps decrease Intent traffic, because you can clean your mailing list beforehand, avoiding to send undeliverable messages that cause a ping-pong of useless messages between SMTP servers. It also helps you save your Intent resources; in other words, WorldCast
also helps you save money.

Since it's multi-threaded, the validating process is very fast.

WorldCast
is a MUST for discussion list administrators and companies which send catalogues or information to their customers.

Validating Email Addresses

To validate email addresses, follow the steps below:

Sending Emails - Overview

WorldCast is an email program that quickly and easily delivers a great number of personalized email messages directly to the recipients, without using your ISP Intent SMTP relay server, because WorldCast is a self-sufficient SMTP relay. (Sure, you may use it, if you want to).

Thanks to this feature, WorldCast gives you INSTANT feedback on every message sent. In other words you can, for instance, discard the invalid recipients of your emailing list.

In addition, WorldCast has the following features:

Hint: You can always use the
wizard to quickly start sending emails.

Creating HTML Messages

When you create messages using HTML formatting, only email programs that support HTML can read the formatting. If the recipient's email program does not read HTML, the message is displayed with HTML tags.

To create HTML messages, go to the Tools menu, select Configuration, go to the Format dialog then check HTML as the desired message format.

WorldCast has a powerful syntax-oriented HTML editor and an HTML previewer.

If you want to show images, you will have to refer to images at the Intent, or send them as an attached file.

Example of a HTML message, referring to an image stored at a web site:

Mail Merge Overview

WorldCast is a Windows mail merge application. You can send customized email messages to a large number of recipients at the click of a button. The messages can combine standard text with customized information for each recipient. A form letter may merge information from an existing database or from another source of data. WorldCast automatically retrieves the specific information to the fields you specify, then sends a customized e-mail message to each recipient. The application merges all the data records from the data source you specify, or allows you to select any subset of records (manually, or based on a filter).

WorldCast merges any data field in the message, by replacing the tags [field] for the corresponding fields from the recipient list.

Please notice that the term [field]
above actually refers to the field name in the header of the imported data source, shown at the
data panel.

The field names are shown on the header of the recipient list and can be placed in the message by typing the field name enclosed by brackets, or with the menu command Message | InsertField and then choosing the field name, or just right-clicking the mouse over the message editor.

For instance, let's assume the following data source:

mailmerge.gif

and the following message:

mailmerge2.gif

The first message produced will be:

Spell Check

The spell check dialog provides many useful options for easily locating misspelled words and correcting them. Many different configuration options are also available (see
Spell Check Configuration for more details).

The Change All
button will replace all occurrences of the misspelled word with the word in the "Replace With:" edit field, while the Change button replaces only the current occurrence of the misspelled word.

The Ignore All
button will ignore the word thought to be misspelled throughout the rest of the spell check, while the Ignore button will only ignore the current occurrence.

The Add
button adds the word in the "Not Found:" edit field to the user dictionary specified in the Configuration.

The Auto-Correct
button adds the words in the "Not Found" edit field and the "Replace With" edit field to the current user dictionary (specified in the Configuration) as an auto-correct function. Any future occurrence of the presumed misspelled word will then be replaced with the correct spelling automatically. This is useful for common spelling mistakes (i.e. recieve for receive, and teh for the).

The Suggest
button will, if possible, add additional word alternatives to the suggestions list.

The Start
button is used to restart a spell check session from the current cursor position if the spell check window lost focus in favor of another window in the current application. This gives freedom of movement, allowing you to edit the document being checked without ending the current spell check session.

The Undo Last
button restores the last spell check action performed and reselects the previous misspelled word (if possible). This button can be pressed multiple times to undo multiple operations.

The Options
button shows a window allowing you to set spell check configuration options

Spell Check Configuration - Dictionaries

This tab of the configuration window controls which main dictionaries and user dictionaries are active during the spell check. See the
options tab for more configuration options.

In both main and user dictionary lists the check box to the left of the item indicates whether or not a specific dictionary is active. To change the active status, simply click on the check box.

To add an already existing dictionary to the list, click on the Add
button. When adding a preexisting user dictionary, Microsoft Word user dictionaries (.DIC file extension) may also be used. To delete a dictionary already in the list, click on the Remove button.

To form a new user dictionary, click on the New
button.

The "Add Words To" selection box lets you specify which user dictionary new words and auto-corrections are to be added to. This must be an active user dictionary (not a Microsoft Word user dictionary).

The OK
button saves the current configuration and closes the configuration window.

The Cancel
button aborts any changes made to the configuration and closes the configuration window.

Spell Check Configuration - Options

This tab (of the configuration window) controls specific configuration options related to the spell check. See the
dictionaries tab for more configuration options.

Ignore Options:

The "Words in UPPERCASE" check box, when checked, forces the spelling checker to skip any words in uppercase. This can be useful for ignoring acronyms.

The "Words Containing Numbers
" check box, when checked, forces the spelling checker to skip any words that may contain one or more numeric characters. This can be useful for ignoring license plates and other partially numeric words. This can also be somewhat detrimental if a numeric key was pressed instead of a character by mistake.

The "HTML Tags
" check box, when checked, forces the spelling checker to skip any HTML tags encountered (i.e. text between opening and closing angle brackets).

The "URLs and E-mail Addresses
" check box, when checked, forces the spelling checker to skip any email addresses or world wide web addresses found in the document.

The Reset Ignore All
button removes any words previously added to the "Ignore All" list. Words previously in the list will no longer be ignored when encountered.

The Reset Change All
button removes any word sequences added to the "Change All" list. Words added to the "Change All" list will no longer be automatically replaced.

Suggest Options:

The "Generate Automatically
" check box, when checked, forces the spelling checker to make suggestions for replacement of a word as soon as a misspelled word is located. If this option is not checked, no suggestions are given initially.

The "From Primary Dictionary Only
" check box, when checked, forces all suggestions to be constructed from the primary dictionary only. If the option is not checked, then suggestions are generated from each main dictionary. The primary dictionary is the first dictionary in the main dictionaries list

General Options:

The "Re-check Replaced Words
" check box, when checked, forces the spell checker to re-check words that it has replaced as a result of a "change" or "change all" operation. This is a useful feature for counteracting the occasional spelling mistakes that may occur when typing.

The OK
button saves the current configuration and closes the configuration window.

The Cancel
button aborts any changes made to the configuration and closes the configuration window.

Start Button

This button is used to restart a spell check session from the current cursor position of the document being checked (if the spell check window lost focus in favor of another window in the current application). This gives freedom of movement, allowing the editing of documents being checked, without ending the current spell check session.

Undo Last Button

This button will restore the last spell check action performed and reselect the previous misspelled word (if possible). This button can be pressed multiple times to undo multiple operations.

Options Button

This button will show a window allowing you to set which main and user dictionaries are active, as well as several other configuration options.

Change All Button

This button replaces current and future instances of the misspelled word with the word in the "Replace With" edit field.

Change Button

The button replaces only the current instance of the misspelled word with the word in the "Replace With" edit field. Any successive instances of the misspelled word will not be replaced.

Ignore All Button

This button will force the spell checker to ignore all future instances of the misspelled word in the current spell check session. Future sessions will not ignore the word.

Ignore Button

This button will force the spell checker to ignore the current instance of the misspelled word. Future instances will not be ignored.

Add Button

This button adds the word thought to be misspelled to the currently active user dictionary (specified in the configuration). Any future occurrences of the word will be ignored - provided that the user dictionary (the word was added to) is active.

Auto-Correct Button

This button adds an auto-correction pair to the active user dictionary (specified in the configuration). This will force current and any future occurrences of the misspelled word to be replaced with the specified word.

Cancel Button

This button closes the spell check window and ends the current spell check session.

Up and Down Buttons

These buttons move the selected main dictionary up and down in the main dictionary list, in order to establish hierarchic importance to the dictionaries list. This is important for several reasons. The main dictionary that is first in the list is considered the primary dictionary. The order of dictionaries in the list is also the order which they are searched, so the most frequently used language should be first in the list.

Main Dictionary List

This list shows the main dictionaries that are known to the system. The check box to the left of the item indicates whether or not a specific dictionary is active. To change the active status, simply click on this check box. The main dictionary that is first in the list is considered the primary dictionary. The order of dictionaries in the list is also the in order which they are searched; in other words, the most frequently used language should be first in the list.

Add Button

This button presents an open dialog for adding an existing main dictionary to the main dictionary list.

Remove Button

This button removes the currently selected main dictionary from the main dictionary list. It is not removed from the computer; just from the available dictionaries list.

Up and Down Buttons

These buttons move the selected user dictionary up and down in the main dictionary list. The order of dictionaries in the list is also the order which they are searched; in other words, the most frequently used user dictionary should be first in the list and so forth.

User Dictionary List

This list shows the user dictionaries that are known to the system. The check box to the left of the item indicates whether or not a specific dictionary is active. To change the active status, simply click on this check box. The order of dictionaries in the list is also the order which they are searched, so the most frequently used user dictionary should be first in the list.

Add Button

This button presents an open dialog for adding an existing user dictionary to the user dictionary list. When adding a preexisting user dictionary, Microsoft Word user dictionaries (.DIC file extension) may also be used.

Remove Button

This button removes the selected user dictionary from the user dictionary list.

Add Words To:

This selection box lets you specify to which user dictionary new words and auto-corrections are to be added to. This must be an active user dictionary and cannot be a Microsoft Word user dictionary.

Ignore Upper Case Option

This option forces the spell checker to ignore all words that are fully upper case.

Ignore Partial Numbers Option

This option forces the spell checker to ignore words that have embedded numeric characters (in addition to alphabet characters).

Generate Suggestions Automatically Option

This option forces the spelling checker to make suggestions for replacement of a word as soon as a misspelled word is located. If this option is not checked, no suggestions are given initially.

Primary Dictionary Only Option

This option forces all suggestions to be constructed from the primary dictionary only. If the option is not checked, then suggestions are generated from each main dictionary. The primary dictionary is the first dictionary in the main dictionary list.

Re-check Replaced Words Option

This option forces the spelling checker to re-check words that it has replaced as a result of a change, or change the whole operation.

OK Button

This button saves the current configuration and closes the configuration window.

Cancel Button

This button aborts any changes made to the current configuration and closes the configuration window.

New Button

This button adds a new user dictionary to the user dictionary list.

Reset Ignore All Button

This button clears the list of words the spell checker is ignoring for the current session.

Reset Change All Button

This button clears the list of words that the spell checker is automatically changing in the current session.

Ignore HTML Tags

This option will force the spelling checker to ignore any text found within HTML tags encountered during the parsing.

Ignore URLs and E-mail Addresses

This option forces the spelling checker to ignore common Intent strings, such as URLs and email addresses.

Thesaurus

WorldCast
comes with a compiled version of Roget's 1911 Public Domain Thesaurus. It is extremely large, containing over 1000 context topics and 30,000 words.

Configuration Overview

The configuration menu presents all options needed to configure and fine-tune WorldCast.

Note: Most of the configuration process is easily handled by using the Wizard's help.

Connection

Use the Connection page of the Configuration dialog box to select the connection properties of your project message.

Option            Effect

Simultaneous ConnectionsThe number of simultaneous connections (threads) to this project should be increased in order to have gain speed. However, it depends on the connection speed. A good number of connections is 16 for a 36 Kbps modem connection. The UNREGISTERED and the UNLOCKED versions are limited to 3 (three) simultaneous connections.

Timeout (minutes)Number of minutes a connection should "wait" before aborting a connection. Increase it to have more accurate results; decrease it to less accurate results. It's good to increase the timeout in the case you have more than 16 connections.

Note: All the changes made here will only be valid to the CURRENT project. In order to make permanent changes (not only to the current project, but to subsequent new projects as well), check the "default" box.

Sender

Use the Sender page of the Configuration dialog box to select the sender properties of your project message.

Option         Effect

NameSender's name. This is the name the recipient will actually see as the sender of the message he has received.

EmailSender's Email. This is the email the recipient will actually see as the sender of the message he has received. Special care should be taken while setting this option, specially if this email is banned. Many SMTP servers will refuse to received email from a banned sender. Some SMTP, after receiving many e-mails from a single sender, may automatically block the sender (because it will recognize this sender as a spammer). One way of avoiding this is to make use of a special WorldCast feature, which alters the sender's e-mail so it never looks the same to SMTP servers. It works by adding random chars to the sender's e-mail (e.g. By adding a question mark anywhere within your e-mail, such as ?myname@myserver.com, myname?@myserver.com, my?name@myserver.com, etc.). Each question mark will be replaced by a random char. In other words, each recipient will receive a different "sender email" and the SMTP server won't be able to filter it.

Reply AddressThis is the email address that will be used when the recipient replies to the message. If left blank, the Email field will be used.

Note: All the changes made here will only be valid to the CURRENT project. In order to make permanent changes (not only to the current project, but to subsequent new projects as well), check the "default" box.

Format

Use the Format page of the Configuration dialog box to select the format of your project message.

OptionEffect

Message formatThe desired message format: HTML or Plain Text. Not used when validating email addresses.
CharsetThe desired message charset. It should be changed to the recipient's charset. Not used when validating email addresses.
Encode text usingThe MIME encoding applied to the message:
  • None (8-bit) - No encoding is applied to the message.
  • 7-bit - Only ASCII chars (0..127) are sent
  • Quoted-Printable - The message is encoded so that all ASCII and NON-ASCII chars can be sent as 7-bit chars.
Message importanceThe desired message importance. Not used when validating email addresses.
Automatically wrap atSet the line length of messages. Not used when validating email addresses.

Note: All the changes made here will only be valid to the CURRENT project. In order to make permanent changes (not only to the current project, but to subsequent new projects as well), check the "default" box.

Servers

Use the Servers page of the Configuration dialog box to select the Server properties for your project.

Servers

Select the relaying type you want. There are
drawbacks and advantages to both.

OptionEffect

Use DNSEnables the Direct multi-threaded delivery. Must be the choice on validating projects.
Use SMTPUses an SMTP Server to deliver messages. Cannot be used on validating operations.

DNS ServerYour ISP's DNS server IP number. Ask your ISP's support about it, if you are unsure, or click the "Detect" button.
DetectTries to auto-detect the DNS Server. It's necessary to be connected to the Intent prior to clicking it.
Safe modeEnables the Safe mode relaying.

SMTP ServerYour SMTP Server. The same used to configure the your email client. Normally something like: smtp.mydomain.com , mydomain.com , mail.mydomain.com , etc. Ask your ISP if you are not sure.
If your server needs authentication, fill the corresponding account name and password.

Note: All the changes made here will only be valid to the CURRENT project. In order to make permanent changes (not only to the current project, but to subsequent new projects as well), check the "default" box.

Copies

Use the Copies page of the Configuration dialog box to select the properties of redundant messages for your project.

Copies

Select the "carbon copy" style you want.

OptionEffect

One message/recipientEach individual message will be delivered to only one recipient, allowing customization of each message. Must be the choice on mail-merge projects.

One message/many recipientsEach individual message will be delivered to many recipients. Since the message will be the same to each recipient, this option does not allow customization of individual messages. Cannot be the choice on mail-merge projects. This option allows the greatest speed on relaying.

RecipientsSets the number of recipients each individual message will be relayed to if the "One message/many recipients" option is checked

Default emailThe email address seen by the recipient as being himself. (i.e. "recipient@mymailinglist.com", for instance)

Default recipientThe name address seen by the recipient as being himself. (i.e. "Subscribers of Fairlogic Mailing list", for instance)

Note: All the changes made here will only be valid to the CURRENT project. In order to make permanent changes (not only to the current project, but to subsequent new projects as well), check the "default" box.

Is WorldCast Multithreaded?

Yes, the process is Multi-Threaded: In the tools|Configuration|Simultaneous connections menu you can configure the number of threads. Note that Win9x has an internal limit of 64 threads, and the unregistered version will only let you use up to 3 connections.
Since it's multi-threaded, there are no reasons to use 2 copies of it, since they will be wasting the same resources (windows connections).

Using the "to", "cc" and "bcc" to customize messages

Do World Case personalize the message, i.e. it uses the 'To' field in message to send the mail or it uses 'Cc' or 'Bcc' field like some other Bulk Mailers ?

WorldCast uses the "To" field to send customized emails. If you do not need customization, you can use the 'bcc' option in the Tools|Configurations|Copies|One message/many recipients menu.

SMTP Authentication

Some SMTP requires POP authentication. You have to "check" your emails using your POP3 client (outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger...) before send them with WorldCast.
OR you have the option of entering the POP3 password on WorldCast, so that you won't need to check it beforehand - just go to the Tools|Configuration|Servers menu and enter your POP account name and password.

How many emails are bad, unsent, etc.?

To view WorldCast Stats,

Go to the Tools|Stats menu.

What's my Smtp server

SMTP Server
In order to find your SMTP server name, the easyest way is asking your ISP, who will provide you the correct information.

You can also try to find it on your email client (like Eudora, Outlook, Netscape Messenger).
Outlook 2000: Go to the Tools|Accounts|Properties|Servers menu. Copy the value in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field.
Outlook Express 5: Go to the Tools|Accounts|Properties|Servers menu. Copy the value in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field.
Netscape Messenger: Go to the Edit|Preferences|Mail & Newsgroups|Mailservers menu. Copy the value in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field.

Will WordCast show my whole recipient list on every email sent?

WorldCast will NEVER "show" the recipient list in the "CC" or "TO" field to other users.

Sending / Validating does not work...

Greetings,

1) If you are behind a proxy server, ask the Administrator to configure WorldCast.

2) make sure your dns server is properly configured:

Dns server
in order to find your dns server number, connect to the internet (this is very important!), Run worldcast, go to the "servers" tab of the tools|configuration menu, and click the "detect" button.

If this does not work, try asking your isp, who will provide you the correct information.

You can also try to find it using winipcfg.Exe (windows 9x) or ipconfig.Exe (windows nt/2000).
Winipcfg: Connect to the internet (this is very important!). Go to the windows start menu, click "run" and type winipcfg. Then click the "more info" button. Copy the value in the "dns servers" field.
Ipconfig: Connect to the internet (this is very important!). Go to the windows start menu, click "run" and type ipconfig. Then click the "more info" button. Copy the value in the "dns servers" field.

3) make sure you have the "LOG" Enabled.
Run worldcast, go to the "servers" tab of the tools|configuration menu, and check the "Save Log" box.

4) Try sending/validating the emails again

5) In the end of the operation, right-click the "status" column and select "View Log".

6) Copy the Log file to the clipboard and email it to support@fairlogic.com
Then we'll be possibly able to reproduce your problem.

7) Another possibility: Your "email" is banned
Use the Sender page of the Configuration dialog box to select the sender properties of your project message.
You'll see these fields:
Name   Sender's name. This is the name the recipient will actually see as the sender of the message he has received.
Email   Sender's Email. This is the email the recipient will actually see as the sender of the message he has received. Special care should be taken while setting this option, specially if this email is . Many SMTP servers will refuse to received email from a banned sender.

8) If nothing else works, please send me the project file, so that I'll be able to reproduce it here.
Go to the "File|Save Project as" menu, save it and email it to:
support@fairlogic.com

Sending images in HTML

WorldCast allows the user to send images along with the messages.

HTML Example:

If you want to show images, you will have to refer to images at the Intent, or send them as an attached file.

1) In the Tools|Format menu, select HTML as the message format.
2) In the message body, you can refer to an image, using the following tag:
<IMG src="http://www.someaddress.com/somepicture.jpg">

Example of an HTML message, referring to an image stored at a web site:

<HTML>

</HEAD>
<BODY>
<CENTER>
<FONT face=Arial size=36><STRONG><EM>WorldCast</EM></STRONG></FONT>
<BR><BR>
WorldCast is an email program that quickly and easily delivers a great number of personalized email messages directly to the recipients, without using your ISP Intent SMTP relay server, because <FONT color=#ff0000>WorldCast is a self-sufficient SMTP relay</FONT>.</FONT>
<BR><BR>
<IMG src="http://www.fairlogic.com/worldcst/screen/snap1.jpg">
</CENTER>
</BODY>

</HTML>

If the recipient user is connected to the internet while reading the message, the image will show up.

Sending formatted (HTML) messages

If you want to send formatted text, send it in HTML format.

In the Tools|Format menu, select HTML as the message format.

Reseller Program

Fairlogic offers a reseller program (50% comission, a custom .exe and a custom order form, where you can check your orders). We can start it now, if you are interested. Just send me your name or company name.

WorldCast behind Proxy Servers

In order to have it working behind a proxy, you will use "SMTP" Relaying (Go to the Tools|Configuration|Servers menu and select "Use SMTP"). You will use the same configuration as your default email client (Oultlook, Netscape Messenger, Eudora...).
Please call your network administrator to set up worldcast parameters.

Printing the Recipient list

WorldCast recipient list can be exported to a text file and printed using notepad, Word, Etc.

Non-profit organization, you are allowed to use the unregistered version of WorldCast.

Creating customized fields

The easiest way to create customized fields is importing them from a csv file.

1) Open notepad
2) Type:

name,email,age
Me,myemail.com,23
You,youremail.com,24

3) Save it to a .txt or a .csv file
4) Import it using WorldCast

Select the | Message menu. This opens the Import Recipients dialog box.
Select the file you have just saved

5) That's it! You have just created a database with the name, email and age fields.

My HTML links are not showing properly

1) If you are sending a text message, go to the "Tools|Configuration|Format" menu, select "Text" in the "Message Format" field. Then write your link in this format: http://www.mylink.com

2) If you are sending an html message, go to the "Tools|Configuration|Format" menu, select "Html" in the "Message Format" field. Then write your link in this format: <a href="http://www.mylink.com"> www.mylink.com </a>

Using more than 64 connections

Some Windows winsock.dll versions (until Win98) imposes a natural limit on 64 threads (simultaneous connections).
So, try to set it according to your Windows version.

ISP relays: Spam Filters

Some other ISPs/relays have some "spam filters" that block any email/relay/ip/county suspicious of spamming. That's the main reason it'll accept relaying from some ISPs/emails/ip/country and deny from others.

So, there are two distinct possibilities

1) Some SMTP servers block emails coming from some known spam sources.

Please, in your WorldCast configuration, change the "Tools|Configuration|Sender|Email" to any other address, like xxxyyy@zzz.com and try to send it again.

2) Some SMTP servers block emails coming from some IP addresses. Try to send your emails from a different ISP, if you are using a dialup connection, or from a different place, if you are using a dedicated connection (cable modem, etc).

3) You can also send emails in SMTP mode, instead of DNS mode. If your SMTP server is not banned, you won't have any problems. Go to the "Tools|Configuration|Servers" tab and select the "use smtp" button, filling the "SMTP Server" field.

That should work!

Sending messages using someone's else email address as the sender

>So, the question is: is it possible to send emails, using WorldCast, from
>my computer but using someone else's email address?

It depends! If the SMTP server uses some kind of authentication
(IP number, password, etc.), you won't be able to send e-mails.

On the other hand, if you find a "permissive" SMTP server, it will
send your e-mails without any problem.

You can also use the "DNS" feature in WorldCast to bypass
SMTPs (WorldCast will play the role of the SMTP server).
Click the Tools | Configuration | Servers menu, and check the
"Use DNS option". Then just type your DNS server number.
If you don't know the number, make sure you're connected to the
Intent, and click the "detect" button. Otherwise, ask your ISP, for
they'll provide you with the correct info.

My computer is unable to reach some addresses...

If your computer cannot reach some addresses, please check:

Are you behind a firewall? If positive make sure you are using an IP firewall, instead of an email firewall.
Do you use a dial-up connection? If positive, can you access normally the internet using the same computer you installed WorldCast? In this case, send me the log file.

make sure you have the "LOG" Enabled.
Run worldcast, go to the "servers" tab of the tools|configuration menu, and check the "Save Log" box.

Try sending/validating the emails again

Where do I find the server information to enter in the program?

SMTP Server
In order to find your SMTP server name, the easiest way is asking your ISP, who will provide you the correct information.

You can also try to find it on your email client (like Eudora, Outlook, Netscape Messenger).
  • Outlook 2000 and Outlook Express 5: Go to the Tools | Accounts | Properties | Servers menu. Copy the value in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP)" field.
  • Netscape Messenger: Go to the Edit | Preferences | Mail & Newsgroups | Mailservers menu. Copy the value in the "Outgoing mail (SMTP) server" field.

DNS Server
In order to find your DNS server number, connect to the Intent (This is very important!), run WorldCast, go to the "Servers" tab of the tools | configuration menu, and click the "detect" button.

If this does not work, try asking your ISP. It
will provide you the correct information as well.

You can also try to find it using winipcfg.exe (Windows 9x) or ipconfig.exe (Windows NT/2000).
  • winipcfg: Connect to the Intent (This is very important!). Go to the Windows Start Menu, click "Run" and type winipcfg. Then click the "More Info" button. Copy the value in the "DNS Servers" field.
  • ipconfig: Connect to the Intent (This is very important!). Go to the Windows Start Menu, click "Run" and type ipconfig. Then click the "More Info" button. Copy the value in the "DNS Servers" field.

While importing, what does "Select the email field" mean?

It means that you should select the "email" field from the file you're trying to import.
- If your import file looks like:
webmaster, webmaster@fairlogic.com
sales,sales@fairlogic.com
Then your email field is "webmaster@fairlogic.com" (the email that appears on the first line)

- If your import file looks like:
name, email address
webmaster, webmaster@fairlogic.com
owner,owner@fairlogic.com
Your email field is email address (the content of the first line)

Is there any limit on the emails to be sent?

No, there is no limit on the emails to be sent.
You can send any number of emails, using either the free or the registered version.

How many connections does WorldCast support?

WorldCast in its "free version" allows up to 3 connections. The "registered version" allows up to 9999 connections.

How many connections should I use to get the best results?

To set the "simultaneous connections", just go to the tools | Configuration | Connection and set the "simultaneous connections" to the desired value. - That should increase delivery speed, if you have enough bandwidth.

To get the best results, use
  • 8-32 connections to a 56K dial-up connection
  • 33-64 connections to a 128K ISDN connection
  • 100+ connections to cable modem, T1, etc.

How fast is WorldCast?

How fast is WorldCast?

WorldCast's performance will depend mainly on:

  • the message size
  • the number of connections
  • the timeout settings
  • the connection bandwidth
  • the traffic between your ISP and the recipient(s).
  • the text encoding. Use "None (8bit)" to get better results.
  • the text format. Send text messages instead of HTML to get better results.

WorldCast is, at least, as fast as any SMTP server. It can send up to 10.000 emails/h (64 simultaneous connections, using a cable modem).

Note: If you need speed, you have to increase WorldCast's connections.
To use more than 3 connections, you must purchase WorldCast.
The unregistered version allows only 3 connections. That's the reason the registered version is much faster!

How many validations should I expect per hour?

Using a cable modem and 64 connections, the average speed is 5.000 emails/hour, depending on many
factors.

How many emails can WorldCast send per hour?

Using a cable modem and 64 connections, the average speed is 4.000 emails/hour, depending on many
factors.

Is WorldCast "Spyware"?

WorldCast does NOT collect user information. It respects the user privacy and security.
WorldCast can eventually send and receive ID packets to Fairlogic.com. For the sake of privacy, no information on the user will be provided to Fairlogic.com. No e-mails will be sent you regarding your WorldCast usage. The only purpose for this is so that Fairlogic.com can inform (through a prompt that will appear when open WorldCast) you about new upgrades to your WorldCast version. You may choose to download it or not. We won't bug with numerous questions and insistence - The prompt will only appear when there are upgrades to the software; NOT every time you open the program. In fact, we don't even know who you are when you use WorldCast.

Will WorldCast "show" the whole recipient list in the "CC" or "TO" field?

No, it won't.

How should I use the "Timeout"?

I's good to set it to 1 minute, if you have a good Intent connection. Increase its value if you have a slower Internent connection.

Can each message be automatically personalized with the recipient's name?

Sure! Just follow the
email-merge steps.

Is there anything I can do to increase WorldCast performance?

The following steps can ensure a better performance:
  • increase the connections
  • decrease the timeout
  • turn off the "safe mode"

Does WorldCast display Unicode (double-byte) charsets, like Chinese, Japanese, etc. properly?

Yes it does.
  • Go to the Editor | Properties | Highlighting menu and choose the correct charset.
  • Go to the Tools | Configuration | Format | Charset menu and set it properly.
  • You'll probably have to set the encoding to "none (8bit)".

If you are sending HTML messages, add the following meta tag, to select the charset. In this example we're using the JAPANESE Shift_JIS charset:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=Shift_JIS">

How do I delete emails?

Just right-click the "status" column and select "delete".

What is the difference between the "free" and the $49 version of WorldCast?

WorldCast is free for non-commercial use. Otherwise, you have to buy the commercial version.
The only difference is that the commercial version allows more than 3 connections, being much faster than the free version.

Will my ISP be identified after sending messages with Worldcast?

Yes, it will. Your ISP assigns a dynamic/static IP to your connection, that will be written into your message header. This trace information is used to provide an audit trail of message handling. In addition, it indicates a route back to the sender of the message. If you need more info, please consult
http://www.w3c.org .

How many fields will the mail-merge process accept?

WorldCast will try to import all your fields and make them available, so you can use all of them in the mail-merge process.

Attaching Files to The Message

Sometimes it is necessary to send files attached to messages. WorldCast provides an easy way of doing so.

To attach files to messages:
   - Go to the "Message" menu and select "Attach File", then choose the file(s) to be attached.
   or
   - Drag any file(s) to be attached to the message editor. Then drop it.

How to Attach Images to a Message

WorldCast allows the user to send images along with the messages.

HTML Example:

If you want to show images, you will have to refer to images at the Intent, or send them as an attached file.

Example of an HTML message, referring to an image stored at a web site:

<HTML>

</HEAD>
<BODY>
<CENTER>
<BR><BR>
<IMG src="http://www.fairlogic.com/worldcst/screen/snap1.jpg">
</CENTER>
</BODY>

</HTML>

Text Example:

If you want to show images, you will have to send them as an attached file.
Just drag the image file to the message editor or go to the Message menu and select Attach File.

Additional dictionaries

Where can I get additional dictionaries for the spell checker ?

Three dictionaries are already included in the demo version:

  • English.dct
  • American.dct

Additional dictionaries such as for Afrikaans, American English, Brazilian Portuguese, British English, Danish, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Spanish, etc, can be downloaded from our homepage. Just go to http://www.fairlogic.com/worldcast/dicts/index.htm and choose the dictionaries you want.

Re-Processing Failed emails

Sometimes it is necessary to re-send (or re-validate) some emails. It's often so for emails that cannot be delivered/validated because of some connection error.

To re-send failed emails:

Direct Delivery or SMTP Relaying?

Most of WorldCast's power comes from its fast and reliable direct multi-threaded delivery, which allows instant feedback on its operation.
WorldCast
also offers the possibility of using SMTP servers, providing the best of both worlds.
It's up to the user to decide the kind of relaying used by WorldCast
.

Advantages of using an SMTP server

If your SMTP server is "local", all the emails will be relayed directly to it, "locally", providing great speed
The "bcc" field can be used, providing great speed. Note that if you use the "bcc", the messages cannot be customized.
Note: You cannot validate an email address list using an SMTP server

Drawbacks of using an SMTP server

If your SMTP server is not "local", it depends on the connection between your computer and the SMTP to determine the speed. There is no guarantee that the speed will be greater or not. If it's local, the speed will be maximized.
Since all the emails will be relayed directly to the SMTP Server, you will have no instant feedback on whether the emails are being delivered or not. If the SMTP is too busy relaying other messages, your messages will be in a queue and there will be a great lag between the time you relayed the messages to it and the time it actually relayed the messages to the final recipient.
If the email was not relayed for any reason, it is a common procedure of the SMTP to return the message to you, showing the error. In this case, you can get your mailbox filled with unwanted messages.
Note: You cannot validate an email address list using an SMTP server

Advantages of using direct multi-threaded delivery:

Instant feedback about the email being delivered or not. If for some reason the email is not delivered, the reason will be displayed (invalid email, SMTP not connected, connection time-out, invalid domain...)
Since it does not use a SMTP server, the messages sent will NEVER be queued - they will be delivered instantly, providing great speed and reliability (due to its multi-threaded engine). Also, the undelivered messages won't return to you (except in
special cases, where some SMTP servers are programmed not to give instant feedback, returning messages to their senders).
Multi-threaded delivery provides speed and reliability - The user is instantly notified the message has arrived to its recipient.

Drawbacks of using direct multi-threaded delivery:
If you have a local SMTP server, it can be faster than using direct multi-threaded delivery.

Safe Recovery

If, for some reason, your computer hangs in the middle of processing, WorldCast safely recovers it to the state it was before the crash.

Don't be desperate if there's power outage right when you are sending that personalized business letter to 50.000 customers... Just execute WorldCast again and your project will be recovered in the point it was before the crash.

The Safe Mode

Most SMTP servers offer instant feedback, providing useful data like:

  • Someone@mydomain.com.jp does not exist
  • Cannot deliver email to someone@mydomain.com.jp
  • Email successful delivered

Though, sometimes they're misconfigured to always reply, stating that the email was successfully delivered - even if the email wasn't delivered or if the recipient does not exist. Some of the largest ISPs are misconfigured this way in order to avoid
spamming.

WorldCast provides the safe mode , ensuring that emails relayed to misconfigured SMTP servers will have a "?" in their status column.

Signatures And Text Templates

Sometimes you want to automate common text (such as your signature), so you do not need to retype it.

Best Regards,
Someone
Fairlogic Customer Service
fcs@fairlogic.com
http://www.fairlogic.com

There's an easy way of doing so:

1) Go to the Editor | Properties menu
2) Select the Code Templates tab
3) Enter "signature" as Name and "My personal signature" as description.
4) In the code template box, write down:

Best Regards,
Someone
Fairlogic Customer Service
fcs@fairlogic.com
http://www.fairlogic.com

5)
In the "Hot key" box, type CTRL + J
6) Click "Add"
7) Click OK

Now you have your signature published at WorldCast.

To activate it:

  • Go to the message editor and click CTRL + J
  • Choose "signature"

That's a powerful feature for users who wish to include templates in their messages.

How to find people's e-mail addresses

Please, take a look at the faq at
http://www.qucis.queensu.ca/FAQs/email/bigfinding.html

False Positives & Permissive Relays

Some Permissive SMTP Servers (like AOL) will send an "OK" response to the RCPT command, even if the user doesn't exist. That's called a "false positive".
In order to avoid false positives, you should turn the safe mode on:
  • Go to the Tools | Configuration | Servers and check the "Save Mode" box.
Now, all "false positives" will have the status "Permissive Relay".

I Have a Problem. What Should I do?

First of all, make sure you have the latest version of WorldCast. Your problem might already have been solved.

Otherwise, ask for support

I cannot send emails using WorldCast. What's wrong?

  • Try to send a message to yourself, so that it will be easier to detect the problem.
  • If you are behind a firewall or proxy, ask your network administrator how to configure WorldCast properly.
  • Check your server information - Your email, at the "Sender Data" tab of the tools | configuration menu, should be VALID, not BANNED. Most SMTP servers will refuse to deliver messages from invalid or banned senders, also known as SPAMMERS. In this case, try changing your sender data. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT!

After sendind or validating the emails, most of them (sometimes all of them) are marked as "bad".

In this case, please follow these steps:

  • enable the "Save log" checkbox in the Tools | Configuration | Servers menu.
  • send the emails. Wait until it finishes.
  • choose a "bad" email
  • right click its "status" field
  • click "View log"

That will tell you exactly what's happening. If you cannot understand the email log, email it to us, then we'll tell you what's happening.

Responsible Use of WorldCast

Email is a tremendously powerful communications tool, used by
millions of people in thousands of positive ways. Unfortunately,
such a powerful tool has the potential to be used in other, less
productive, ways.

Someone sending email incurs no incremental cost; sending one message
costs about the same as sending 100 messages. Some folks use this
feature of email to send messages to thousands, even millions, of
people at once. These are usually advertisements, sometimes sermons
on the sender's favorite topic, sometimes pleas for financial
assistance or scams intended to defraud the unwitting. Almost all of
these messages go to people who did not ask to receive them. Also,
some people use email in denial-of-service attacks, using various
methods to flood someone's emailbox with so many messages that their
email becomes unusable. These are examples of abuse -of- the email
system.

Also, it is possible to impersonate, threaten, disparage, or
otherwise harass someone via email. These are examples of abuse
-on- the email system.

Notable exceptions to bulk email abuse are legitimate mailing lists,
where people subscribe to receive messages pertaining to a
particular subject. These lists can be large, and they can account
for large numbers of messages being sent, but they are in no way
abuse of the email system. Quite the opposite, in fact - they are a
perfect example of the productive power of email.

What is 'unsolicited email'?

Unsolicited email is any email message received where the recipient
did not specifically ask to receive it.

Taken by itself, unsolicited email does not constitute abuse; not
all unsolicited email is also undesired email. For example,
receiving 'unsolicited' email from a long-lost friend or relative is
certainly not abuse. The reason that it is defined separately is
that email abuse takes several forms, all of which begin with the
fact that the email received is unsolicited.

NOTE: Usenet convention holds that, by posting to a newsgroup, one is
tacitly soliciting individual, *topical* replies via email.

The following are examples of soliciting email:

- posting to Usenet or saying in a chat group:
"please send me email about foobars"

- sending email to an advertised auto-reply address:
"for more information, send email to info@some-isp.com"

- filling out a web form which explicitly mentions email:
"fill this out to get email about foo"
"fill this out to get on the mailing list about foo"
"check this box to get on the foo mailing list"

The following acts DO NOT, by themselves, constitute 'soliciting'
email:

- just posting a message to a Usenet newsgroup or any
other public forum (although individual, *topical*
replies to Usenet posts are have long-standing
status as normal Usenet practice)

- chatting in IRC or other chat groups

- simply visiting a web site

- filling out a survey form at a Web site
*that does not explicitly say it is for mailings*

- putting one's email address on any other form,
such as product registrations or magazine
subscriptions

- posting one's email address on a web page (web page
authors should clearly specify the reason an email
address appears on the page)

- entering into a business relationship or conducting a
business transaction; for example, purchasing a product
or service from a company, or downloading a free trial
version of a software product from a web site.

Banned Emails

Normally, any person known to be a spammer has his email address on a blacklist. Many SMTP servers rely on that blacklist to refuse relaying messages from spammers.
Therefore, make sure your email address/domain is not banned as a spammer, otherwise many SMTP servers will refuse relaying your messages.
